These are replacements for the Mad Rock Safeguard and operate in a similar fashion. These are used in rope climbing and one-stick climbing. While the Safeguard is our preferred device, these are a close second. TIP : When taking weight and tension off while using this, it’s recommended to seat the brake line so it engages right away when putting weight back into it. So once you take tension off while using it, grab either the main line headed towards the tree or the tag end of the rope and pull the rope to help engage the birdie quicker is all.

Description

Beal Birdie

Compact belay device with assisted braking for lead climbing or top rope. All metal construction with cam and friction components in stainless steel for great durability. The rope exits following the device’s axis to avoid twisting. The BIRDIE can be used with all dynamic single ropes from 8.5mm to 11mm.

Edelweiss Kinetic

The Kinetic is a compact belay device with assisted locking. It is designed to belay in lead and top rope climbing techniques with both hands on the rope. In case of a fall the belayer has to hold the brake side of the rope and the belay device will help to arrest the fall by increasing the braking action. The cam profiles are specially shaped to be rope friendly and ensure a strong braking when needed.
