The SRT Saddle Hunter Setup – Everything you need for SRT, 1-sticking, and rappelling in one place. These three go hand-in-hand for the ultimate run-and-gun setup. SRT when possible using presets (paracord) or using the 1-stick climbing method. Rappelling is the safest and fastest way out of the tree.

This kit is designed to be safe, “in spec”, easy to use and interchangeable no matter what you bring with you into the woods. See picture for everything in use currently by The SRT Saddle Hunter (shows optional Stealth Strips and some customizations).

For starters, the kit is designed around the Rappel gear. This will replace your tether and ascender/friction hitch. I use 40ft of 9mm Sterling Canyon C-IV, MadRock Safeguard, Madrock Super Tech Screw carabiner, Kong 8mm Quick Link, and 40ft of dynaGLIDE pull back rope. All of this gear is essential for me no matter how I climb. I’ve even used this gear while hunting hang-ons. Once you rappel, you’ll never want to climb down a set of sticks or steps in the dark.

The next piece of gear I add in with this is the 1-stick. A quality 1-stick is efficient, lightweight, packable, and versatile. A 1-stick paired with your rappel gear can get you into just about any tree. I use a 15″ FeatherStick paired with ultralight standoffs, ultralight bottom step with built-in 3-step aider, the top step is either an ultralight or Scout platform. I have been experimenting with both and find I really enjoy having the Scout on the top paired with 2 SquirrelSteps on an OCB strap. This is the best of both worlds. A platform as well as a ring of steps. Very comfortable and easy to maneuver around the tree. Also, the EWO stick with a cam cleat is soo solid to the tree that you can push off the backside without the stick budging. Don’t forget the one-stick rope made from 3/16″ Amsteel with a full bury.

Finally I add in the SRT equipment. The Kong Futura hand ascender is so small and packable. I use a Maillon Quick Link to attach the Beal Air Step to the hand ascender. This gets wrapped up and left in my dump pouch. It’s always in my dump pouch even if I don’t plan on using it. If you drop your stick climbing or need to rappel down for any reason, its nice to have the hand ascender to climb back up. Before I leave the tree I am hunting I will leave behind a loop of paracord. If I ever plan to hunt that tree again I can always use the paracord loop to set my line so I can climb SRT.

Default quantities selected will give you everything you need except a saddle, lineman’s rope, and gear hanger. Everything is optional too, so you can uncheck items you already have.

Sterling C-IV 9.0mm Canyon Rope - works great for SRT and rappel rope as well as for your tether/lineman ropes. Sold by the foot, enter quantity as the number of feet that you want and it will come in one continuous length. Since this rope is 9mm, we recommend the Kong Duck instead of the Ropeman for an ascender. For a prusik, use the Beal Jammy (available in 35cm/50cm/60cm), Beal 5.5mm Cordellette, or Sterling 6mm TRC. This rope is in spec for the MadRock Safeguard which can be used for rappelling down after your hunt.

Quick Link - Delta

Delta quick link for use in 1-sticking and SRT for a girth hitch. Allows you to quickly attach your rope instead of feeding your whole line through your girth hitch. Better than a carabiner as there's no worry about cross-loading.

dynaGLIDE Throwline (1.8mm)

dynaGLIDE is a hollow braid throwline of pure Dyneema^®. This throwline from TEUFELBERGER is coated and has a strong signaling effect due to its neon colors. The orange or green of the throwline provides for good visibility in the trees. Its coating ensures very little elongation and better gliding characteristics on bark.

The dynaGLIDE throwline impresses with:

FeatherStick

FeatherSticks are super lightweight without the holes. Build DIY sticks your way in your preferred size. 12" - 18" sizes make a great stick for "1-sticking." Click here for the perfect DoubleStep with a sewn in aider.

Lightened aluminum square tube in 6061. 1/8" wall thickness. These are available in the following lengths (12", 15", 18", 20", 22", and 24"). These have been machined to lighten the tubes in a unique pattern while maintaining maximum strength. Available in black anodize, raw aluminum, or camo dipped.

Climbing Stick Bracket

Climbing stick bracket/offset for use with 1" square tube to offset climbing stick away from the tree for foot placement. Sold individually and includes just the v-bracket, not the climbing stick or DoubleSteps shown in pictures. Includes mounting hardware.

Now with additional holes drilled through the bracket to lighten them from 4.2oz, Ultra lightweight design further reduces the weight to 3.1oz. Our ultralight design is for the lighter hunters, those over 250 pounds with gear should stick with our standard/heavy duty brackets.
NOTE: Please use our standard bracket in conjunction with a top-of-stick platform like The U.P., Scout, or Monarch.

Select the 5/16" version for use on Muddy Pro or XOP sticks, otherwise all other styles have a 1/4" bolt and hole for use on most other sticks.

DoubleStep Ultralight

Ultralight DoubleStep for making the ultimate DIY climbing sticks for hunting. Many also upgrade Lone Wolf sticks with these DoubleSteps, especially on the top step to be able to comfortably reach higher to place next stick.

Using on Lone Wolf sticks will require a replacement bolt. Use 1/4"-20 x 2", Grade 8. Might be able to get at your local hardware store or available here - Replacement bolt for Lone Wolf Stick. Note - you only need a replacement bolt at the top and bottom, not middle step. Be sure to re-use the plastic washer under the bolt head to prevent the rotating LW standoff from loosening your DoubleStep.

DoubleStep Slotted for Aider

This version of the DoubleStep has 1″ slots that are perfect for adding a sewn aider and come black anodized or camo dipped. Scout Platform - OOAL

Top of stick platform for 1" climbing sticks (Lone Wolf, Muddy Pro, API, Beast, and EWO Feathersticks). 1" version Will work on most standard 1" tubes. These are made by Out on a Limb.

The Scout was designed for that serious long haul minimalist hunter that wants to get to the woods and in a tree carrying as little extra weight as possible.

Dimensions: 10" wide, 2 3/8" high, and about 3 1/4" deep. The aluminum is 3/8" thick.

One-Stick Rope

7.5ft finished length, 3/16" full bury Amsteel rope for use with the Harken 150 or Schaefer Marine Medium cam cleat. Will also work with a Muddy Pro cam cleat. Rope has a tight eye designed to slide over a 1" tube. Can also be girth hitched if used with a Hawk Helium or OOAL Shikar stick. Finished with a stopper knot and shrink tube.

Available in the original configuration with the strap slot or with a cutout in the strap slot so they can be slipped onto your platform strap after your platform is hunt on the tree.
